Kitty Hoff

Guestpost time again! Sky N. on Kitty Hoff & Forêt-Noire:

I’m not exactly known as a great fan of German music, but of course there’s always an exception to the rule. In this case Kitty Hoff and her band Forêt-Noire, supporting act when Coralie Clément played Munich two years ago. Apart from Fleur Nerveuse, Kitty’s lyrics are throughout German, but with a light, très jolie touch, the sound oscillating between nouveau chanson, laidback swing & gracious bossa tunes. Her website will also tell you that her recent cd Blick ins Tal is no. 2 of the Top 30 Album Charts of Radio 1190 in Colorado. Rightly so! [Kitty on MySpace] [Kitty on YouTube]

  1. Really nice recordings. Will have to check her out. Many thanks, Sky!

Funny thing about Germany, she might not have a pop scene up there with certain other countries in terms of quantity, but what labels she has!!! Incidentally some of my favourite records are German too. I really like Germany :)

  3. there`s a lot of prejudices about german pop music. there were and is still a lively scene which is not smaller than in other countries (Germany is the third biggest market for pop music)....a lot of the bands are, like in France, just relevant for their country but there were and are a lot of acts who are very influential internationally. Think of Kraftwerk, Can (and other Krautrock Bands), Tangerine Dream, Einstürzende Neubauten..Today there is a big electronic and indiescene, who is well known ouside of germany...For example acts like The Notwist, Lali Puna, Tarwater, have a good reputation in France....
Kitty Hoff is quite okay....there are some other german acts singing in french. Phonoboy and Les Fleurs de Fouxi from Munich, Mini Moustache (funny funny liveband! Good Partyact), now living in Berlin, also from Berlin Petting,,,,,

    best, good work Guuz

  4. unfortunately, most prejudices about German pop are true ... nowhere to go but down when one thinks herbert groenemeyer or xavier naidoo, "artists" who aren't even capable of their own native German language, just listen to their lyrics, an insult to every thinking German person. more clever, playful, skilled and competent acts like the moulinettes, erdmoebel, kinderzimmer productions, stereo total, dauerfisch or les hommes sauvages are - as well as kitty hoff - still the exception.

  5. For the record: this is a guestpost by Sky, his opinion on German pop is not quite shared by me. Almost every band Thomas mentiones is good, and I'm very much in favour of the electronic music scene (Kompakt!). When it comes to pop in German, I also like songs by Tocotronic, Wir Sind Helden, Klee and 2Raumwohnung.
Coming up on this blog: the new album by Stereo Total!
